The Lagos State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ has endorsed the candidature of Comrade Alhassan Yahya and Abimbola Oyetunde as President and Deputy President respectively.
The endorsement took place today Saturday in Lagos during the monthly Congress of the Council held at its Secretariat and attended by members of chapels of the Council.
During the meeting, a member moved the motion for the endorsement of Comrade Alhassan Yahya and Abimbola Oyetunde and was seconded without any counter motion amid wide jubilations and solidarity songs.
The Chairman of Lagos Council of the Union, Comrade Adeleye Ajayi raised the hands of the candidates, declaring them as their sole candidates for President and Deputy President in the coming triennial delegates conference.
Ahead of the triennial delegates
conference scheduled for Owerri,Imo State in November 2024, Comrade Alhassan Yahya had flagged off his Presidential campaign today Saturday in Lagos State Council of the Union .
Comrade Alhassan Yahya who is a leading candidate in the election, addressed Journalists at the monthly Congress of the Council during which he highlighted some programs he intended to introduce if elected as President of NUJ.
He disclosed that while he was at the Congress to solicit support and their votes, his primary mandates would among others centered on members welfare and capacity development to enable them discharge their functions effectively.
Comrade Alhassan Yahya commended the Lagos State Council for the endorsement of his candidature along with Abimbola Oyetunde, saying they will uphold the confidence placed on them.
