Barrister Wike Hails Tinubu’s Support as FCT Transformation Gains Momentum

In a media parley marking his first year in office, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering support, saying it has been instrumental in his success.

Wike emphasized that the President has given him the autonomy to make decisions, providing the necessary resources to drive the transformation of the FCT.

The Minister highlighted several key initiatives, including the provision of infrastructure, withdrawal of the FCT from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission, and inclusion of youths and women in governance.

He also disclosed that President Tinubu has increased the financial threshold for capital projects in the FCT from N1.5 billion to N10 billion, eliminating unnecessary bottlenecks and ensuring timely delivery of projects.

Wike assured that the nation’s capital is on the verge of witnessing a huge transformation, with numerous projects in the procurement process.

He emphasized that the provision of road infrastructure will cut across the city centre and satellite towns, improving the lives of residents and encouraging agricultural activities.

The Minister also revealed plans to collaborate with the private sector in road provision, address housing deficits, and improve security in the FCT.

He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him to transform the city.

On agriculture, Wike stated that the FCT has a comparative advantage in rice, yam, and cashew production, and that rural roads are being constructed to provide access to farmlands.

He also mentioned considering private sector partnerships to increase food production.

Regarding the park and pay policy, Wike declared the operators’ activities illegal, vowing to address the skewed revenue collection system.

He also dismissed speculations about leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), affirming his commitment to fighting for his principles within the party.
