Doctor Nuhu Solomon Anyegwu Urges Nigerians to Embrace Tolerance

The Progressive Patriots, a non-governmental organization, at the weekend hosted an event in Lokoja, Kogi State, to commemorate the International Day of Tolerance.

The ceremony, held in collaboration with Mopegan, featured Dr. Nuhu Solomon Anyegwu, the immediate past Provost of College of Health Sciences and Technology Idah, as the guest speaker.

Dr. Anyegwu emphasized the crucial role of tolerance in achieving global peace and harmony, highlighting that tolerance allows us to coexist despite our differences.

He noted that intolerance can lead to crises and conflicts, citing the importance of treaties like the United Nations Charter, Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, and Treaty on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in promoting peace and security.

The former Provost praised ex-Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello for exemplifying equity, transparency, and justice, particularly in establishing universities in Kogi West and Central, and a Christian Chapel in the Government House, fostering religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

Dr. Anyegwu urged Nigerians to adopt tolerance in their daily lives to achieve global peace, emphasizing its importance in breaking down barriers and resolving conflicts peacefully.

His message resonated with the audience, comprising personalities from within and outside Kogi State.

The International Day of Tolerance, observed annually on November 16, serves as a reminder of the importance of cooperation and mutual respect.

By embracing tolerance, we can promote understanding and peaceful coexistence.

The event was also used to honor some individuals who have made enviable stride to peace, tolerance, and good governance. Among the awardee is the Director General of Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation, Hajia Hawanana Yusuf.
