Dr Ottah Rewards Academic Excellence At Federal Polytechnic Secondary School

The Head of the Department of Broadcasting of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, Dr Gabriel Ottah, has awarded prizes to students of Polytechnic Secondary School, Idah, who distinguished themselves in academic performances.

The prizes were in two categories. The first category was for the best students in English Language from Junior Secondary One to Senior Secondary Three.

According to Dr Ottah, those ones would go home with the English Language textbook adopted by the school for their respective next classes.

Similarly, the second category was for candidates who sat for this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and scored up to 250 and above; while the third category was for the first, second and third positions in all arms of the Junior classes.

The University Don made the presentation at the school’s graduation and prize giving held at the school auditorium.

Dr Gabriel Ottah, a former Director General Protocol, told the gathering that he began the presentation 17 years ago and would continue, adding that the wrapped bulky parcels contained books relevant to the students’ chosen areas of studies.

“What we have done is to get books relevant to the chosen course of study by the JAMB candidates. The Principal gave us 13 names of the high scorers out of which 4 applied to study Medicine and Surgery; 4 others applied for Law; 2 for Engineering; 1 for Computer Science; 2 others for Pharmacy”, Dr Ottah gave a breakdown.

Of the 13, one Athanasius Oguche who applied to study Computer Science at the Federal University, Lokoja, scored 315 to top the scores.

Also, students who came first, second or third in each arm of the Junior classes were given 60-leaves excise books branded with the portrait of Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo.

The notes, sponsored by Dr Ottah, were meant to restate the Governor’s interest in the education sector in Kogi State and a mark of encouragement to those in power.

He stated that other notes were branded with the portrait of the Member Representing Idah Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon David Zachariah.

” Each of the recipients had both copies of the branded excise books”.

Speaking at the occasion, the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Idah, Dr Baba Usman, who was represented by his Deputy Rector Academic, urged the students to appreciate the gesture by studying hard.

Also speaking, former Provost of the College of Health Sciences and Technology, Idah, Dr Nuhu Solomon Anyegwu, said the donor, Dr Gabriel Ottah had printed his name in gold by his consistent presentation of prizes to the students.

Dr Anyegwu emphasized the need for the students to imbibe the culture of self discipline and dedication.

Highlights of the occasion were presentation of prizes and a short drama by the students.
