GOVERNOR BALA MOHAMMED URGES JOURNALISTS TO PROMOTE NATIONAL UNITY

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has called on journalists to play a responsible role in promoting national unity and nation-building.

The Governor made the call at the 3rd Lateef Jakande Annual Memorial Lecture held at the EDMARK D’podium International Event Centre in Ikeja, Lagos.

Themed “Journalism and the Challenge of Nation-Building in a Multi-Ethnic Society,” the lecture drew a high-profile audience of policymakers, journalists, and civil society leaders.

Governor Bala Mohammed, represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Aminu Hassan Gamawa, emphasized the importance of responsible journalism in shaping public discourse and promoting inclusiveness.

“Journalism is an indispensable pillar in the architecture of nation-building,” Governor Mohammed said.

“The media must rise to its constitutional obligation of shaping public discourse constructively and promoting inclusiveness.”

The Governor commended the Nigerian Guild of Editors for sustaining the legacy of the late Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande, a pioneering journalist and statesman.

The lecture recognized Jakande’s contributions to journalism and governance, and veteran journalists and publishers commended his legacy in nation-building.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, commended the Guild for sustaining the annual lecture and applauded the Jakande family for attending the event.

The lecture provided a platform for reflection on the role of the media in strengthening Nigeria’s democratic journey and fostering unity in diversity.

The representative of the Bauchi State Governor was accompanied by the Commissioner for Information and Communication Usman Shehu Usman and the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor Mukhtar Gidado.
