Hon. (Barr.) Cosmas Atabor Assents Environmental Safety and Sanitation Bye-law

Hon. (Barr.) Cosmas Atabor has officially signed the Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Environmental Safety and Sanitation Bye-law 2024, which takes effect from January 1st, 2025.

The Bye-law mandates all residents, business owners, and public institutions within the LGA to participate in Environmental Sanitation Activities on the first Saturday of each month from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM.

Movement during this period will be restricted, except for individuals on essential services who present valid identification for exemption.

Food vendors are required to maintain cleanliness and proper hygiene at their business premises by cleaning, removing and disposing off wastes at designated dump sites to prevent pollution and other negative effects to life.

The Bye-law prohibits trespass and unauthorized activities along roadsides and other unauthorized locations.

Additionally, to reduce congestion and prevent road accidents, all shop owners encroaching the road and blocking drainage channels are ordered to return back to the authorized shop space allocated to them. Further more, indiscriminate parking around the Ajaka central market and along the roadsides is prohibited as Vehicles must clearly pullover or park in designated areas.

Defaulters of the Bye-law shall face consequences of arrest by law enforcement agents and payment of ₦20,000 fine accordingly.

The legislative council leadership joined the Executive Chairman, Hon. (Barr.) Atabor as he performed the historic signing ceremony in his office at the New Direction Secretariat at Ajaka.
