The House of Representatives today held public hearing on a bill seeking to establish a special trust fund for the financing of the Ajaokuta Steel Project.
The bill, sponsored by Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem, aims to provide sustainable funding for the project, which is critical to Nigeria’s industrial growth and development.
The Ajaokuta Steel Project has been in limbo for decades, with funding being a major constraint.
A Publisher of an Online medium, Omanews, Comrade Ali Atabor who spoke with Newsmen at the National Assembly Complex shortly after the public hearing highlighted that with the proposed bill, the project is set to receive a significant boost.
According to him, the special trust fund will provide a reliable source of funding, ensuring that the project is completed and becomes operational.
Comrade Ali Atabor contended that the benefits of the Ajaokuta Steel Project cannot be overstated.
The Publisher who was a former Chairman of Kogi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, explained that when completed, the project will provide employment opportunities for thousands of Nigerians, both directly and indirectly.
He added that It will also stimulate economic growth, increase revenue generation, and reduce the country’s reliance on imported steel products.
Hon. Sani Egidi Abdulraheem, who represents the Ajaokuta Federal Constituency, has been at the forefront of efforts to revive the project.
The Federal Lawmaker has consistently advocated for the project’s completion, citing its potential to transform the economy of Kogi State and Nigeria as a whole.
The public hearing of the bill provided an opportunity for stakeholders to contribute to the bill and ensure its successful passage.
