In the humble town of Ajaka, within the heart of Igalamela, a light was born that would illuminate not only our community but the entire nation. With heavy hearts, we, the Igala Mela Youth Forum Abuja, mourn the passing of Professor Nuhu George Obaje—a father, mentor, and an extraordinary son of Igala Mela. His life stands as a testament to resilience, brilliance, and dedication to advancing Nigeria’s geological and energy sectors, and it is a legacy that we hold dear.

A Beacon of Knowledge and Vision:

Professor Obaje’s journey, from his roots in Ajaka to the forefront of Nigeria’s scientific community, is a story that fills us with immense pride. As the pioneer Director of the Centre for Applied Sciences and Technology Research (CASTER) at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, he was a trailblazer who opened new frontiers in the exploration of Nigeria’s hydrocarbon potential. His research spanned beyond our borders, garnering global recognition and transforming our understanding of Nigeria’s inland resources.

A Champion for Sustainable Solutions:

Beyond traditional energy, Professor Obaje’s work on clean-coal technology proved his dedication to an environmentally responsible Nigeria. His smokeless coal initiative demonstrated his foresight and commitment to sustainable development, blending innovation with compassion for the environment. His unwavering pursuit of clean energy solutions marks a path forward that we, as a community, hold in the highest regard.

A Global Legacy Rooted in Igala Mela:

Professor Obaje’s accomplishments reached far and wide, with honors that only the most dedicated and impactful scholars attain. He was awarded the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship in Germany, a fellowship from the Royal Society of London, and numerous other recognitions that solidified his position as a leading figure in geology. Yet, despite his global achievements, he never forgot his origins. He remained a proud son of Ajaka, inspiring generations within our community to reach for greatness while staying rooted in their heritage.
