Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has commemorated Democracy Day, celebrated on June 12, 2025, by urging citizens to sustain the democratic gains recorded so far.
In a message released to mark the occasion, Governor Ododo reflected on the significance of democracy in Nigeria’s history and the struggles that have shaped the country’s democratic journey.
He noted that democracy is not a gift, but something that is earned through the courage and determination of ordinary citizens who demand justice, fairness, and inclusion.
The Governor paid tribute to the sacrifices made by pro-democracy heroes, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who played a key role in Nigeria’s democratic transition.
Governor Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a participatory democracy that delivers justice, opportunity, and dignity for every citizen.
He highlighted the importance of inclusive governance, accountability, and transparency in leadership.
He urged citizens, particularly the youth, to participate in the democratic process and contribute to the success of democracy.
Governor Ododo also called on traditional rulers, civil society, political office holders, and public servants to prioritize service and results-oriented policies that positively impact the lives of citizens.
The Governor reaffirmed Kogi State’s commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda under President Tinubu’s leadership.
Governor Ododo prayed for the continued progress and prosperity of Kogi State and Nigeria, and urged citizens to rise together in the spirit of nationhood, stand together in the pursuit of progress, and walk together on the path of peace, equity, and sustainable development.
