The Kogi State Government has uncovered a deeply entrenched criminal network aiding kidnapping gangs across parts of the state, particularly in the Western Senatorial District.
The network was discovered following intensified joint security operations in Kabba/Bunu, Ijumu, Yagba East, and Yagba West Local Government Areas.
According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the investigation revealed that some locals are directly involved in undermining the security of their own communities.
The government has identified bread sellers, sachet water factories, motorcycle operators, and fuel stations as key suppliers to the kidnappers.
“The evidence points to some bread sellers and sachet water factories supplying food and water directly to kidnappers in forest hideouts,” the statement read.
“These supplies are often transported by motorcycle operators acting as couriers between town-based vendors and criminal camps in the bush.”
The government has vowed to prosecute individuals and businesses found aiding kidnappers, including food vendors, fuel station operators, and logistics providers.
“Any individual or business caught aiding the operations of kidnappers, whether through sales, logistics, or land provision, will be treated as a direct accomplice and will face the full weight of the law,” the statement warned.
The government has also launched an investigation into traditional rulers and youths allegedly selling land to known criminal elements.
“The Government affirms that no one, regardless of status or position, will be spared if found guilty of enabling or abetting criminality,” the statement added.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has reiterated his administration’s commitment to peace, security, and the protection of all Kogites.
“Kogi State will maintain its status as a no-go area for criminals and their collaborators,” the statement concluded.
