Kogi Journalists commend Gov. Ododo for food palliatives across LGAs in the State.

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE KOGI STATE NIGERIA UNION OF JOURNALISTS, (NUJ) CONGRESS HELD AT THE NUJ STATE SECRETARIAT LOKOJA ON SATURDAY 9TH MARCH 2024

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kogi State Council presided over by the Chairman Alhaji Ademu Seidu Haruna , deliberated on a wide range of issues and concludes as follows:

STATE OF THE UNION

Members were given till the end of the month of March to pay their professional and practicing fee for the year 2024.

Members should adhere strictly to the ethics of the profession in the discharge of their duties.

Members should explore their internal leadership on any issues before escalating it to the State level.

No member should take their complain to anybody outside the leadership of the union as strict disciplinary measures will be taken against any erring members.

STATE OF THE STATE

Congress in Session observed that the State Government under the leadership of Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo started the issue of governance on a good note since his inauguration on 27th January 2024.

The union
specifically commended the Governor for the food palliatives across the 21 Local Government urging him to sustain the palliative scheme to cushion the hardship in the State.

The union also commended the Government for the take-off of the health insurance policy for both formal and informal sector of the State.

Congress also commended the State Government for implementing 100 percent hazard allowance for health workers in the State and urged the Governor to make further pronouncement on wage award for civil servants.

The union observed the resurgent of kidnapping and robbery in the State tasking the Government to redouble it’s security architecture to address this issues without further delay.

The union wants the Government to handle the issue of food inflation in the State which is affecting the masses adversely by focusing on the agriculture sector as a means of providing food security and employment for the teeming Youths in the State.

The union appeal to the Kogi State Government to hasten the resuscitation of public water supply in the State capital.

Congress in Session also observed the poor supply of electricity by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, (AEDC) urging the State Government to take a cue from the Abia State Power model in providing alternative means of power supply to the State.

It appealed to the Federal Government to expedite action in the completion of Ganaja-Ajaokuta Federal road before the full scale of the raining season.

The Congress in Session also wants the State to complete all ongoing road construction especially welcome to Lokoja-Barrack-Zone 8 nine kilometers road.

It equally introduced monthly environmental sanitation exercise to be observed last Saturday of every month with a three man committee for immediate implementation headed by Comrade Oyibo Saliu, Abdulsalam Mohammed and Grace Kato.
