The Kogi State Chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Traditional Medicine Practitioners (NANTMP) has endorsed Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and Deputy Comrade Joel Salifu for a second term in office.
During a visit to the Deputy Governor in Ejule, Ofu local government area, the group resolved to give their unflinching support and loyalty to the current administration in Kogi State.
In his address, the state chairman of the group, Chief Amodu Ibrahim, said that the reward for good governance is invariably good, thus the group resolved to align themselves with the state government due to its remarkable performance within a short time in office.
He said that the state’s traditional medicine practitioners are united under his stewardship and are prepared to support the current administration in achieving success even beyond the 2027 election.
According to him, ”the group is complementing the government’s efforts in improving security by eradicating ritual killings and cannibalism through the establishment of a task force tasked with monitoring the activities of its members”.
He called for vehicular support for the team to effectively navigate villages and hamlets in order to root out bad eggs in the group.
He also requested the establishment of a traditional hospital for the treatment of people suffering from traditional ailments, in other to reduce the mortality rates resulting from inadequate medical intervention for such conditions.
Similarly, the Kogi East Zonal Chairman of the Forum, Mr. Abu Salifu, stated that in light of the commendable initiatives undertaken by the current administration, the forum has endorsed Governor Ododo and Deputy Joel Salifu for a second term, pledging to return home to solicit further support from the people.
In his response, the Deputy Governor of kogi state, Comrade Joel Salifu expressed gratitude to the group for their endorsement and support, affirming that it would spur the government to achieve even greater feats.
He affirmed that the present administration is ready to change the narrative of the state, stressing that the Governor’s humble beginnings reflect his humane approach to addressing the needs of the people, while highlighting the numerous achievements of the state government within its brief time as a sign to even greater achievements for the state.
Comrade Salifu urged the people to remain vigilant against being lured by the empty promises of self-serving politicians from opposition parties, saying that such individuals cannot win elections and would only bring political setbacks for Kogi East.
He assured that the Governor prioritizes the security of the people of Kogi East, stressing that ongoing security operations are being conducted in Omala, Dekina, Ofu, and most recently, Igalamela/Odolu, among other local governments, to ensure the safety of the people, and urged the people to rally behind the current administration to partake in its successes.
The Deputy Governor advised against the preparation of charms for kidnappers and ritual killers under the pretense of ‘yahoo,’ warning that government scrutiny is vigilant, and anyone found culpable will face consequences.
He called for continued prayers for the government and the state.
Highpoint of the meeting was a cultural performances by Oduh 1 and his Ogba group, Abu Ejule and his Iya Ógwú, as well as Iya-Ebo Owowolo, Iya Ógwú-Idologo, and Alijenu, among others.
