Inline with the State free Education law, which makes Education free in Kogi State, the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji. Ahmed Usman Ododo has released funds for the payment of Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), Basic six and Common Entrance Examinations Fees for students in the State Public Schools.
The Kogi State Commissioner for Education Hon. Wemi Jones made this known in Lokoja at a meeting with Principals of Secondary Schools and PTA representatives in the State.
The meeting which was called for stakeholders to brainstorm on ways to implement the Government free Education policy in the State, have in attendance the State Chairman of STETSCOM , ANCOPSS State President, State PTA Vice Chairman , ASUSS State Chairman, Principals in public secondary schools and PTA Local Government Chairmen across the State.
The Commissioner re- emphasized the commitments of the State Government towards restoring the glory of Education to what it used to be using ICT compliance.
He stated that the Government decision to increase the Education Budget to 30% is to restore the glory of Education and make the State the most educated state in Nigeria.
The Commissioner added that the Government of Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo will continue the legacies of the last administration in education, calling on Principals, Teachers and Parents to cooperate with the government for smooth implementation of education policies and programs in the State.
According to him, the State Government has invested heavily in education and all what is needed is the cooperation of all stakeholders to ensure that programs and policies of the Government in Education are implemented for the economic growth of the State.
He enjoined them to get themselves acquainted with the 2020 State Education Law in order not to be on red sides of the Law, saying anyone found violating the law will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
The State he said will no longer condone the bad attitudes of some teachers to their jobs.
In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, Alhaji Yakubu Dele Musa called on the stakeholders to cooperate with the State Government and the Ministry to ensure that education is revived.
He stated that the State Government has done a lot in education and requires the cooperation of everyone to move education to higher height.
Speaking, the State President of All Nigerian Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Mallam Suberu Jimoh Omanayi thanked the Government for the achievements recorded in education and called for training and retraining of teachers to bring them up to date with current realities in education.
