Kogi State Ministry of Education Partners with NDLEA to Combat Drug Abuse in Schools

The Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, FCIB, has pledged the ministry’s support and collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to reduce drug abuse in schools across the state.

During a visit from the Kogi State NDLEA Commander, Mr. Umar Mustapha Yahuza, and his management team, Hon. Jones expressed concern over the alarming rate of drug abuse among teenagers.

He emphasized the ministry’s commitment to addressing the issue, stating that the state’s investment in education must not be undermined by drug abuse.

The commissioner noted that the prevalence of drug abuse, particularly among female students, is worrisome and requires collective efforts to combat.

Hon Wemi Jones assured the NDLEA of the state government’s willingness to take proactive measures to reduce drug abuse.

Mr. Yahuza thanked the State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his support and announced plans to establish a multi-dimensional drug rehabilitation and skills acquisition center in the state.

Mr Yahuza highlighted the Agency’s efforts to sensitize and enlighten people about the dangers of drug abuse, particularly in schools.

The NDLEA commander called for a robust program of action to educate, rehabilitate, and reintegrate those affected by drug abuse.

He also introduced the concept of Drugs Integrity Test for families and institutions to help curb drug abuse.

The visit culminated in the decoration of Hon. Wemi Jones as a War Against Drugs Abuse Ambassador.
