Comrade Ali Atabor, guest speaker at the 6th edition of the Kogi Built Environment and Building Materials Exhibitions (BEBM),has emphasized the need for collective effort to make Kogi State a dream destination.
Comrade Atabor a Former Chairman of the Kogi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) who made the remak as guest speaker at the event, commended the Executive Director of BEBM, Mr Bayode Oladipo, for his consistent efforts in promoting local building materials and affordable housing in Nigeria.
He urged Mr Oladipo to sustain the initiative, which resonates with the people.
Comrade Atabor highlighted the importance of good governance in achieving the dream of making Kogi State a better place.
He emphasized that the government must provide basic amenities, create an enabling environment for businesses, and invest in education.
Kogi State, located in the central region of Nigeria, was created in August 1991, and has been blessed with vast natural resources, including minerals, fertile land, and waterways.
However, despite these blessings, the state has struggled to reach its full potential. The making of Kogi State of our dream requires a collective effort from all stakeholders, including the government, private sectors, and the citizens.
Comrade Atabor noted that the Government must provide basic amenities like electricity, water, roads, and healthcare facilities. It must also create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, and thereby generating employment opportunity for the youth.
The former NUJ State Chairman also emphasized the importance of investing in education, which is the backbone of any society. He noted that education is essential for developing human capital and driving economic growth and development.
The government must prioritize education by providing access to quality schools, training teachers, and offering scholarship to deserving students.
“Agriculture is another sector that holds great promise for Kogi State. The state is blessed with fertile land and a favorable climate, making it an ideal location for farming. The government must support farmers by providing them with access to credit inputs and markets. This will help to increase agricultural productivity, reduce poverty, and improve food security commending Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his efforts in the development of the state”.
In conclusion, Comrade Atabor urged all stakeholders to work together to make Kogi State a dream destination. He emphasized that the state has the potential to become a hub for economic growth and development, but it requires the collective effort of all stakeholders.
