The Kogi State branch of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has elected new officials to lead the association for the next two years.
Doctor Abubakar Hassan was unanimously elected as chairman, alongside other officials, including Doctor Kenvin Osanobi as first vice chairman, Doctor Ohala as second vice chairman, and Doctor Aderami Otunba as general secretary.
In his inaugural address, Doctor Hassan thanked delegates and stakeholders for their trust and promised to justify their confidence.
He announced plans to establish a peace and reconciliatory body to address the grievances of breakaway members and bring them back into the mainstream.
Additionally, a committee will be set up to review the financial transactions of the previous leadership, ensuring accountability, probity, and transparency.
Doctor Hassan commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his administration’s commitment to quality healthcare delivery, pledging the association’s support for his health care policies.
Former chairman, Doctor Tijjani Godwin Atayi, praised the caretaker committee for their dedication and professionalism, ensuring a rancour-free transition.
He assured the new officials of the practising medical doctors’ unwavering support and cooperation.
The election was part of the association’s 2024 Annual General Meeting, attended by past chairmen and top medical professionals.
