He also commended the minister’s timely approvals for logistics in Basic Health Care Provisions, noting that these efforts have significantly reduced maternal mortality in the country.
The NUJ President further highlighted the minister’s achievements, including the significant increase in health insurance enrollment since his appointment.
Comrade Yahya emphasized the importance of a Special Health Trust Fund as an alternative funding mechanism for the health sector, which would ensure sustainable healthcare delivery.
Additionally, he proposed a partnership between the NUJ and the Ministry of Health to organize training and workshops for journalists.
This, he said, would enhance their capacities and media visibility of health ministry activities, ultimately promoting health awareness and advocacy.
In response, Dr. Pate expressed gratitude for the NUJ’s support and assured the union of his commitment to collaboration.
The Health Minister highlighted the ministry’s recent achievements, including the launch of a campaign to vaccinate 100 million children against preventable diseases.
The minister directed his team to engage with NUJ councils across the federation to implement the understanding reached during the meeting.
This directive underscores his commitment to working with journalists to enhance the health sector’s development and promote health awareness in Nigeria.
