Comrade Ali Atabor, a former Chairman of the Kogi State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, has emphasized the importance of tolerance and peace in Kogi State.
Speaking at the International Day of Tolerance commemoration organized by the Progressive Patriots in collaboration with MOPEGON in Lokoja, Comrade Atabor commended the current Governor of Kogi state, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for fostering a peaceful environment and reducing conflict and tension in the state.
Comrade Atabor said tolerance is necessary ingredient that must be embraced by all , pointing out that non tolerant environment brings about conflicts and tension which undermine peace and tranquility in the society.
He noted that, as a journalist and politician, he has observed a significant decrease in public discord and unrest while traveling through local communities in the state, attributing this to the humility, simplicity and responsiveness of Governor Ododo in governance.
Governor Ododo’s commitment to peace and security is reflected in the state’s development plan, which aims to create a highly innovative, healthy, and prosperous state anchored on peace, resilient infrastructure, and sustainability.
The former NUJ State Chairman urged leaders to be sensitive to the people’s needs and aspirations, promoting tolerance and understanding.
He also suggested expanding peace-promoting gatherings to include a broader range of stakeholders and key actors.
As Kogi State continues to give priority to peace and tolerance, it serves as a model for other regions to follow, adding that with initiatives like the International Day of Tolerance and proactive security measures, the state is paving the way for a brighter, more harmonious future.
