Students Rice stampede in Nasarawa Varsity, PDP blames State Govt for poor handling of distribution.

The Nasarawa state government and the authority of the state owned University have been blamed over what has been observed as a situation that could have been avoided following the death of students of the Nasarawa state University Keffi.

The People’s Democratic party (PDP) Which is the main opposition party in the state blamed the ugly situation that led to the death of innocent students of Nasarawa state University Keffi on poor arrangements on the way and manner in which palliative were to be distributed.

In a statement signed by the party’s state Chairman, Mr Francis Orogu frowned at the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule over what he described as insensitivity to the plight of the citizenry.

The PDP in the state said it received with deep shock and grief the death of some students of the state University, Keffi which was as a result of a stampede that broke out in the institution for the sake of the distribution of palliative to the students.

The party described the entire incident as unfortunate, pointing out that it was also uncalled for bearing in mind that the entire episode which was avoidable could have have been averted if proactive measures were taken by the authorities.

The PDP in the state expressed surprised on why the authority concerned would embark on the distribution of palliative to a university community in such an unorganized manner it did when there are well structured platforms such as Faculties, union and religious groups in Institution that would have handled such distribution in an orderly and more matured manner.

The statement further explained that while its members are grieving over the needless death of these innocent students and those that sustained various degrees of injuries,it further extends their sincere heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased students while praying for the quick recovery of those that sustained various degree of injuries

“As a party, we join all well-meaning Nigerians, families, Nasarawa state University, Keffi Community, and the entire people of the state in mourning and we also express our profound grief over the needless death of our dear students’.

Meanwhile, Governor Abdullahi Sule has expressed deep concerned over the incident which was as a result of stampede at the State University, Keffi.

The Governor described the incident as unfortunate and promised to thoroughly investigate the circumstances that led to the stampede.

He gave assurance that all those found to be involved would be dealt with according to the law of the land.
